Reds winger Adam Hammill spoke to the gathered media today at Oakwell.
The Reds haven't been in action since the middle of March and whilst a few of the players have been away with their respective countries, the majority of Paul Heckingbottom's squad have mixed time off with plenty of training ground preparation for a very busy April, with games coming thick and fast as we approach the end of the 2016/17 season.Hammill feels the break came at an opportune moment: "Yes, I think the international break came at a good time for the Club.
"It's allowed us to work on a few things at the training ground, especially where we've been going wrong a little recently. I think we've been okay in the games but we haven't been clinical enough.
"At this level you'll get punished. Unfortunately, we've found that out the hard way recently.
"In a lot of the games we've had the most shots" he explained. "We've often had more opportunities than the opposition but they've not been going in for us.
"But there's no better way, no better game than a local derby to start putting things right. We've done lots of tactical work, recharged our batteries and so we're fresh and ready to go into a game that really shouldn't need any building up."
Barnsley still occupy a top half spot in the EFL Sky Bet Championship but as Hammill explained, the players have been a little down about the recent run of results which dented hopes of a push for the playoffs.
Adam described the 'hurt' felt inside the dressing room whilst pointing out the little differences at this level make a huge difference.
He told us: "Listen, the lads are hurting in there. We feel we should be higher in the table. So we're disappointed with our recent results. But if you look at the last home game for example against Ipswich. On another day I score a goal and it's 2-0 and we see it out.
"But then their man runs off the back of me and scores in the 95th minute and it's 1-1. It's fine margins isn't it? The standard is higher obviously and mistakes are jumped on.
"A lot of it comes down to having the right attitude though, a willingness to learn. Sometimes you learn more from setbacks. I know that more than most.
"As a team, and me myself, I think we're so close to something good, something special. Maybe that's where the disappointment comes in? I just feel we need one goal to go in and hopefully we'll get back on a good run."
The Reds return to action this Saturday for a 12.30pm kick off as Oakwell plays host to the South Yorkshire derby against Sheffield Wednesday.
Last seasons Player of the Year, Hammill told us that a game such as this needs no introduction really.
"It's a local derby, it's a game everyone will be talking about; at work, in schools, I've already had people pulling me about it. The lads know what this game means to the fans.
"For me on a personal level there's extra incentive for me. Obviously in the last game against them I was sent off and don't think it was warranted. So that adds fuel to the fire.
"You've to respect the rules and accept the referee's decision. But in games like this, fans want to see the challenges, the flair and it all adds spice to the proceedings."
The Scouse Magician ended the press conference by speaking about the Club moving forward.
He said: "I was delighted to come back here, to come home really. To right some wrongs I suppose. I echo the thoughts of the Gaffer really, I think we've something special here and it's about continuing to build with people who want to be here, to be part of the Club.
"We know the gulf in finance that exists at this level of football, we know what we're up against. But it's 11 vs 11 on the pitch and as we've shown this season we don't shy away from anything. I like to think we've taken it to the opposition.
"We want to get back on a good run and what better way to kick that off than on Saturday in a big derby game?
"I'm due a goal though aren't I?"
