Versatile left sided player to remain a Red until 30th June 2017.
We are delighted to announce that Aidy White has today signed a new one-year contract to remain at Oakwell until 30th June 2017.White initially joined the Reds on loan from Rotherham United in November 2015 and following a number of impressive displays, he went on to sign a permanent deal with the Reds in January 2016.
The former Republic of Ireland Under 21 international - who can operate at both left back and as left sided midfielder - now re-joins Paul Heckingbottom's squad for the 2016/17 campaaign.
In his initial spell with the Reds, the 24-year-old Yorkshireman made 19 appearances for the Reds including the Johnstone's Paint Trophy Final at Wembley Stadium.
Speaking of signing a new contract, Aidy said, "It’s a brilliant club. We’ve achieved so much and it was definitely my first option to stay here. The fans have been amazing with me and the team. They’ve shown what we can do when they get behind the team and we’ve had a fantastic season going to Wembley twice. In terms of an attacking full-back it’s excellent. We want to go forward and create chances but be solid at the back. It’s great that Adam (Hammill) has signed up too so we can link up down that left side."
On securing Aidy White's signature, Reds acting Chief Executive Linton Brown commented, "Following very positive discussions over the weekend we're absolutely delighted that Aidy has chosen to sign a new contract and remain with us for the upcoming 2016/17 Championship campaign. Having spoken to Aidy he's clearly excited by what we are building here at Barnsley Football Club and he's raring to go for our return to the Championship. He's hungry, determined and committted to the cause, so exactly the type of player that we need to continue our on-going success here at the Club. He's got proven footballing qualities and has a lot of Championship experience, so this signing represents another huge addition to the squad."
