REDS MAKE IT FIVE WINS ON THE BOUNCE!

14 January 2024

Barnsley FC Women continued their impressive form with victory away at Hull United this afternoon.

A goal in either half was enough for the Reds to register a fifth consecutive league victory and maintain their unbeaten record on the road this season.

The opener came from the penalty spot. After Nic Shaw had skipped beyond a couple of defenders on the left she burst into the box and was upended. Up stepped Maddie Foye who made no mistake, firing home into the bottom left corner with the goalkeeper rooted.

Foye nearly turned provider when she played Jodie Gregory in, but our top goalscorer's strike from just outside the box glided an inch wide of goal.

Shaw had a couple of opportunities in the second half to double the Reds' lead but was twice denied by the Hull 'keeper.

The second goal was scored by Kirsty Nicholls. After a bit of fortune in making her way into the box on the angle she powered an unstoppable effort into the top corner to seal a precious three points and ensure the gap to league leaders, Sunderland remains at just two points.

Head Coach, Jess Horsley's thoughts: "It was a hard game due to the pitch here, so the girls had to dig in and work hard for it.

"It's great to see out the result and get another three points on the board and start 2024 off positively."
