MAURICE WATKINS | 1941 - 2021

16 August 2021

Barnsley Football Club is saddened to learn of the passing of former Chairman, Maurice Watkins CBE (80).

Arriving at Oakwell in May of 2013 following a 28-year association with Manchester United, Maurice enjoyed a successful four years with the Reds.

Working alongside Patrick Cryne, he oversaw an unforgettable 2016 Wembley double, where Barnsley were successful in both the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy and Sky Bet League One Play-Off final.

Maurice was a man of great dignity who held the respect of all who met him. He will be greatly missed and all at Oakwell send their heartfelt condolences to his loved ones.

We will pay our respects to Maurice Watkins ahead of tomorrow night's game against Luton Town, where our players will wear black armbands, whilst there will also be a minute ahead of kick-off to reflect on his passing.
