Wilson on Boro Cup Clash

2 January 2015

Reds Manager Danny Wilson is preparing his side for their first game of 2015 as Middlesbrough are the visitors to Oakwell in the FA Cup 3rd Round.

Talking to the press ahead of the match, Wilson has a similar to squad to the one that lost 1-0 at Preston on Boxing Day.

“We’re very similar to the last game,” said Wilson. “There’s not many recovered but, as we always do, we’ll wait for the last minute anyway.

“Sam’s (Winnall) coming along well. He’s a lot better, obviously, but he’s not available for the weekend. The Yeovil game may come a bit too soon, but I’d like to think not far off that he’ll be coming back into contention.

“For the time that he’s been out, he’s been missed. We’d love to get him back sooner rather than later but setbacks with hamstrings can take even longer to remedy.”

With Championship Middlesbrough tomorrow’s FA Cup opponents at Oakwell, Wilson has warned Boro not to underestimate his Reds side.

“Anything can happen,” added Wilson. “It’ll be a big test for us – a massive test for us – but it’s the FA Cup.

“They’re a very good side. Looking back last season, when we played them last season they were very strong. They seem to have got even better from the back end of last season. They’ve recruited brilliantly in the summer and they’ve reaped their rewards.

“The form they’re in at this moment in time is quite daunting because they’re beating some of the better teams in the division.

“I think it’s (the magic) there for everybody and the fans are looking forward to it as well. When all of Christmas has died down and the football starts to rev up again and you head into the New Year, there’s nothing better than a good cup game to start you off with. Thankfully we’re still in the Cup so it gives everybody something to look forward to.

“Let’s hope we can cause one of the upsets of the round and get through the tie. It’s not beyond us, by any stretch of the imagination. We’ve got some good players at the Club. Let’s hope we can all click at the same time, and we’re going to have to.

“Everything is a forgone conclusion in some people’s eyes but it never really is on a football field. I’m sure Aitor will not do that, he’ll be very professional in his approach to us.

“Stevie Agnew being in there as well. I know Stevie really well, and he’ll understand the enormity of doing his homework and his preparation work for us. We’ll not be underestimated, I’m sure.

“The fringe players are very good players. It depends who you’re talking about as fringe players, if it’s (Adam) Reach or if it’s (Albert) Adomah, these type of players are quality players. No matter what team he plays, he’ll put a team out that he thinks can win the game, that’s what I’m more than positive of.”
