Reds Players Spread Some Christmas Cheer at Barnsley Hospital.

18 December 2014

First team squad visits the hospital’s Children’s ward to deliver Christmas gifts.

The entire Reds first team squad this afternoon visited the Children's ward at Barnsley Hospital to spread a little Christmas cheer.

Prior to the visit, Reds Captain Martin Cranie organised a money collection amongst the squad which was then used to buy various gifts and treats for the young patients. The players took time to walk around the hospital wards and meet with patients, parents and on-duty nursing staff.

Martin Cranie, commenting at Barnsley Hospital said “We’re delighted to be here today and to meet the patients, parents and fantastic staff at Barnsley Hospital. The Children on the ward are so brave, so I hope that we’ve been able to put some smiles on their faces by being here today. We’d also say a huge thank you to all staff at the hospital, who have made us feel so welcome. The work that they do throughout the year is incredible and it goes without saying they are real superstars for the care and support that they offer.“

“The visit today has been an emotional but enjoyable experience, and it’s been great to be out in the community and meet with local people. On behalf of the players, the management team and everyone at Barnsley Football Club, we wish patients, their families and the staff at Barnsley Hospital a very happy Christmas.”

During the visit the players also met with the Hospital fundraising team who are currently raising money for the Tiny Hearts Appeal. Barnsley Football Club is fully behind the campaign which aims to raise £1 million over the next two years to help fund a brand new Special Care Baby Unit at the hospital. All money raised for the Tiny Hearts Appeal will be used to buy essential equipment such as intensive care units for babies that need that extra help with breathing, keeping warm or feeding, double beds and homely furniture for families who need to stay at the hospital, and the best infant resuscitator equipment.
