Cambridge midfielder joins Reds
Barnsley Football Club is pleased to announce the arrival of midfielder Luke Berry, who joins the Reds from Cambridge United for an undisclosed fee.The 22-year-old has signed a three-year deal with the Reds, keeping him at Oakwell until at least the summer of 2017.
“I heard of interest a few weeks ago and I’m delighted it’s all gone through,” Luke told www.barnsleyfc.co.uk.
“I think I can step up and I’m excited to play with better players.”
Last season the midfielder helped Cambridge back into the Football League with a Play-Off Final victory over Gateshead – Luke’s 47th appearance of the campaign in which he scored 14 goals.
Cambridge-born Luke graduated from his hometown Club’s youth set-up and soon established himself as a first-team regular. His performances during the 2011/12 season earned him a call-up to the England ‘C’ team as he ended the season as United’s top goal-scorer.
“I’ve played over a hundred games and learned a lot and I’m grateful for that,” added Luke of his time with Cambridge.
“I’m a box-to-box midfielder. I’ll get goals, I like to create things and I like to think I can bring quite a lot to the table.
“I’m like any other player. I want to play games and be in there trying to progress and do well for the team.”
