Lee Johnson's Sheff Utd Reaction

28 November 2015

Reds Head Coach Lee Johnson spoke to the press after seeing his Reds side score a dramatic late equaliser against local rivals Sheffield United.

Conor Hourihane’s 95th minute thunderbolt earned the Reds a deserved point, after hitting the woodwork multiple times and missing a penalty during a frantic second half.

Johnson said: “It was a fantastic finish, great strike and obviously he has that in his locker. If you want that to fall to anyone on his left foot it’s Conor.

“Their keeper saved his penalty and he was hurting from that but he didn’t hide and when the man needed to step up he did.

"Thoroughly deserved in my opinion, we hit the bar, post, missed pen, handball straight after the pen and should have had another penalty. Even at the end when Ryan Williams can square it and Winnall has a tap in.

“I can’t hide the fact they had chances. Davo (Adam Davies) made some great saves. We started poorly and gave them the impetus. When they scored it was disappointing to see how much they time-wasted. They’ve got a group of players that are very experienced and the shape they played was about being behind the ball.

“I think it could be a big point. I’ve just come in to the players there and it was nice to hear from them. They’re starting to mature a bit now, a lot of the stuff was positive and they were talking about going on a good run.”

The Reds will travel to Wigan next weekend to face Wigan in the Area Semi-Final of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy, and Johnson gave his thoughts about that.

“We’ll be the under-dog but it’s up to the players to show their spirit. We know we’ve got the quality and we’ll get another week of fitness. We’ll go and affect Wigan, we’ll get chances we just need to keep firm at the back.”
