Davies: "We got our just rewards in the end."

27 September 2016

Reds stopper Adam Davies praised the character in the Reds side for the way they bounced back to claim a point against Aston Villa.

He felt the side did not perform at their best against Brighton and Hove Albion on Saturday but responded and reacted well.

The experience of playing against Villa was something that Davies relished on a personal level, but as a collective, felt the squad performed admirably to get their reward.

“It was enjoyable, we knew that they were going to come at us. From Saturday we wanted to pick ourselves up because Saturday wasn’t good enough for us.

“We wanted to play with a lot of energy, high-tempo and press them high and get back to what we’ve been doing recently and I feel like we’ve done that and I think we deserved a point.”

Despite the defence being relatively new to Championship football, he is incredibly impressed with how well they have adapted to life in the second tier.

He said: “The organisation at the back and concentration from the lads, especially my back four was fantastic tonight and we got our just rewards in the end with the goal.

“They can do it, they believe in themselves, I believe in them and the gaffer believes in them and it shows with Cole and Andy coming in, the strength in depth that we have.

“Hopefully we’ll have Aidy White back soon and James Bree back soon but we’ve got players there to play and it’s all good for me.”

Keeping up that level of performance is something that Davies feels it will be difficult for the Reds to maintain, but he hopes the entire squad will have the right mind-set to drive them on to more success.

“This league is really tough and I feel like it will be tough to play at that high tempo every week but we’ve got to try and do that.

“It’s a mind-set that the boys have to have and if we can play like that, more often than not we’ll be ok,” he added.

Davies is playing Championship football for the first time in his career and he is relishing every game each time he steps on the field.

He hopes to continue enjoying his time at this level for as long as possible and insists the side will take things game by game so as not to get carried away.

“It’s the first time I’ve played in the Championship and I’m enjoying it,” he said. “I’m going to keep enjoying it every week and hopefully do my best.

“It’s been good for us so far, the main aim is to stay up and get as many wins as we can, taking it game by game.

“I know it’s an old cliché but if you look too far forward it will hinder you.”
