The Reds Head Coach spoke to the media following the 2-1 defeat at Loftus Road against QPR..
The Reds succumbed to defeat here at Loftus Road tonight with their hosts scoring two goals from the two shots they had on target in an entertaining but ultimately disappointing game for Barnsley. Hecky felt the second goal made life very difficult for his side having seen them blow numerous opportunities to level the game before the break.
"It may have been unfortunate but, so what, it doesn't have to worry us. And we did create our own chances, especially first half when we were loose in front of goal and it could have been a totally different matter. When you go 2-0 down no matter who you're up against it's going to be difficult."
The Reds missed a plethora of chances in the first half with Josh Scowen, Ryan Kent, Alex Mowatt and Marley Watkins all guilty of spurning opportunities, but the Gaffer was lacking sympathy speaking to the press after the game.
As he asserted: "We've got to take them. Great chances. We've said it all along, we have to be clinical at that end and ruthless and really tight at the other. But that's the story of this game. They have only had two on target. They've scored both.
"We had a little bit missing out of possession today. In possession you could say we created lots of chances but we didn't take any of them and that's always going to be a problem. We didn't take our chances, QPR did."
Both Rangers goals seemed fortuitous. The first seemed to deflect in without the QPR player knowing much about it and the second goal went in off Reds defender Angus MacDonald. Both came from crosses from the hosts right hand side and Heckingbottom believes neither goal was defended well..
"It was too easy" he said. "The throw-in has come in too easy. The cross has come in too easy. Alright, we've defended our box well, and it's come off the lad's standing foot but we could have stopped that before it got to the box. We were too relaxed out of possession all night and that made us easy to play against tonight.
"I didn't even know the second was an own-goal until I've just been told but again, it's dealing with things at source. It was too easy."
With the Reds all but safe this season and the playoff places drifting further away it could be easy to think that there's little else but pride to play for until May, but the Head Coach is adamant that his squad of players will be kept on their toes with their futures very much dependant on how things pan out in the final stages of the 2016/17 season.
He explained: "These players are playing to show they belong here, that they belong in the Championship. The players here, those on loan and those out of contract have to play to impress. A lot of the work we've been doing and the work we are going to be doing, it's about the next step. Who is going to be in the 18, who can play regularly? They won't be allowed to rest on their laurels."
